The Building Trades National Medical Screening Program ( BTMed) provides a FREE medial screening for former construction, maintenance, and DND workers who worked on a Department of Energy
(DOE/AEC) site. This program is coordinated by CPWR- The Center for Construction Research and Training and is supported by the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO with support from state and local Building and Construction Trades Councils.
Many former DOE workers who have participated in our screening program have been eligible for compensation under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act
(EEOICPA). EEOICPA provides compensation to workers or their survivors for illnesses caused by exposure to radiation or other toxic hazards during employment in the nuclear weapons industry. Participants who qualify may receive both cash benefits and payments or medical costs attributed to the illness for which compensation was awarded. By taking part in the FREE screening through the BTMed program you can find out if you have a compensated illness!

By participating in the BTMed program some health concerns you currently have can be checked though this screening and may detect a disease early.
The BtMed program consists of two steps:
A specially trained Building Trades worker or work site expert will conduct your work history interview to determine hazardous materials you may have encountered. The interview can be conducted in-person or over the phone. By completing the interview it may help determine what materials you may have been exposed to on the DOE site such as:
Asbestos
Beryllium
Cadmium
Chromium
Fumes, vapors or dusts
Lead or other heavy metals
Mercury
Nickel
Noise
Radiation
Silica
Solvents or degreasers
You will relieve a free screening exam to test for illnesses that may have been caused by these exposures. Following the exam, you will receive a letter indicating any medical findings. The program cannot pay for additional medical treatment, but we can assist you with referrals for further medical care. All results are kept completely confidential.
The medical exam is scheduled after your complete the work history interview. BTMed has more than 200 credentialed medical providers located across the country to serve our participants.
